LMT Stop #33: Wilson (Zebulon), NC

Excellent Adventure Day # 70

A Fish Story

Today on the Low Mileage Tour we’re actually going back to our stop 29 years ago this past Wednesday, June 17 1991, when we met up with a new kind of team name in Minor League Baseball – The Carolina Mudcats.

The Trip

The Video

This video was actually filmed in three different places as the Carolina Mudcats were a team in transition when we visited in mid-June 1991. There are three parts to it: a look at a somewhat rundown but dignified old stadium, a first-hand view at the changing nature of ballpark entertainment and the emergence of a new kind of minor league baseball operation.

On Deck

Tomorrow on the Low Mileage Tour we will try to make up at least one of the two stops missing from this week – Winston Salem, NC and Columbus, GA then catch up with where we were on June 22, 1991 -the small hill town of Pulaski, VA where both Sue and I said later, we began one of our favorite parks of the trip…a baseball vacation in the midst of a tour of ballparks.

The rest of today, though, is for other things. As amazing as this trip truly was, I’ve lived a lot of life in the 29 years since it ended. The best two days of my life are the day I married my wife Elizabeth and the day we welcomed my 12-year old son Alistair to this world… the Syracuse National Championship was pretty good too.

To my brothers, our own Dad, and all of my friends who have become proud dads too, Happy Father’s Day!
